Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he is not happy with his form this season but insists he is still capable of producing the kind of performances which have so often turned matches for his side in the past.

However Gerrard remains hopeful that he can make the England team for the World Cup in South Africa, and is confident that they have a good squad for the campaign.

Gerrard told the court the he felt he was about to be attacked:

“He stood up quite aggressively out of his stool and I thought to myself ‘I am not going to be able to sort this out in the way I wanted’,” he told police. “I thought he was going to give me a smack,” he added. “He was shouting back and I didn’t know what he was saying but he started arguing and I thought he was going to hit me so that’s why I threw a punch.”

Gerrard admitted throwing three punches but told the police only one connected.

The midfielder still faces a charge of affray in connection with an incident at Southport’s Lounge Inn in December.

This ad is know simply as “Clay pigeon” and shows Steven Gerrard kicking balls at clay pigeons which are being fired by Xabi Alonso.

The advert was created by ad agency “180 Amsterdam” and according to their press release Gerrard managed to hit one of the clay pigeons in fewer than ten attempts.

Anyway….real or not (it looks real), it’s pretty impressive.

Melwood is based in West Derby and has been the official training ground for Liverpool since the 1950s. In recent years it has undergone massive development and been modernised to a high standard.
