Liverpool tightened up their recent poor form with a two goal victory over Bolton.

Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring in the first half from a pass by Aquilani. Insua got the second after his shot was deflected in off Kevin Davies. This victory means that Liverpool are now unbeaten in their last 6 league games.

An extra boost was given to team as Spurs were held to a draw, meaning that Liverpool are now only one point behind them in the race for 4th place.

Rafa Benitez:
“I am pleased with the result and the second half but not too happy with the first half – but at the end of the day we needed to win and we won.

“In the first half they had two chances and we were a little lucky but in the second half it was different and we could have scored more goals.

“I think we are improving. Clearly you can see the team is working hard.”

Kevin Davies put Bolton ahead when he profitted from a tap-in from a corner. Glen Johnson equalised soon afterwards with a low drive into the bottom corner that saw the scores 1-1 at half-time.

After half-time, Tamir Cohen scored Bolton’s second goal, and Davies received a second card and a sending off. Liverpool’s response came from Steven Gerrard, who hit the bar allowing Fernando Torres to finish clinically and Gerrard rifled in the winner late on.

“All our players wanted to impress and do well. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, among others, knew they needed to improve.

“We showed we have quality players and they all fought hard to show their improvement.

“We had a lot of possession and were in control for much of the game. To concede two goals like we did is disappointing, but the team hit back and proved their quality.”
