100 Players Who Shook The Kop: #58 – Stéphane Henchoz
Henchoz’s arrival at Liverpool under Houllier raised a few eyebrows, but he soon proved what a stabilising influence he had on the Liverpool defense. Henchoz stayed with Liverpool from 1999 to 2005 and proved to be a reliabel servant to the club. Alwaya understated, but always reliable.
When Benítez arrived and moved Carragher to centre of defence Henchoz new his opportunitie would be limited so he arranged to join Celtic before joining newly-promoted Wigan in the Premiership where he went straight into the starting 11. He rejoined Blackburn in the 2006-2007 season, but only featured in 16 games before being released in the summer of 2008.
In the middle of October, 2008 34-year old Stephane Henchoz announced that he had retired as a player but that he intended to stay in the game as a coach.
