100 Players Who Shook The Kop: #57 – Stan Collymore
Stan Collymore was born in 1971 and played for Liverpool between 1995 to 1997. Collymore was the British transfer record at £8.5 million when he signed for Liverpool from Nottingham Forest in 1995.
Collymore scored in his debut game, which came against Sheffield Wednesday and initially formed a solid partnership with Robbie Fowler – a partnership that scored a combined total of 55 goals in the 1995 season.
Collymore also scored the winning goal in the now famous 4-3 victory over Newcastle United, in a game that has since been dubbed the most exciting in Premier League history.
The Collymore and Fowler partnership managed 47 goals in their second season together, but Collymore was becoming a concern for manager Roy Evans. Famous for his mood swings, Collymore’s position in the team became a negative influence and he was sold to Aston Villa for £7 million in 1997.
