100 Players Who Shook The Kop: #4 – Robbie Fowler

Robbie Fowler was born in Liverpool and was originaly an Everton fan as a child – despite this Fowler joined Liverpool when he left school in 1991, eventually turning professional on his 17th birthday.

Fowler was an incredible goal scorer – in his 4th game for Liverpool Fowler hit the net 5 times and Fowler looked like an un and coming start that was set to break all records.

Throughout the mid and late 1990’s Fowler was arguably the countries most naturally gifted striker, and Liverpool fans nicknamed him ‘”God”.

Fowler’s success had meant he had become a popular tabloid target, and in 1999, Fowler was fined £60,000 for pretending to snort the white line behind the goal in a celebration afetr scoring – the celebration was intended as a slap to the tabloids who had been running stories suggesting that Fowler had been using cocaine and not looking after himself.

In 2001 Robbie Fowler left Liverpool to play for Leeds United, after stories had circulated about a training ground bust-up with assistant coach Phil Thompson. After spells at Leeds and Manchester City, Robbie Fowler sensationally came back to Liverpool in 2006 on a free transfer. Fowler stayed until 2007 before leaving to play for Cardiff City.

In his Liverpool career, Robbie Folwer played in 369 games, scoring 183 goals.
