Ian Callaghan was born 10 April 1942 in Toxteth, Liverpool and holds the record for the most appearances for Liverpool FC playing between 1960 to 1978 as a right-winger.
Ian Callaghan was a Liverpool fan as a young boy, and signed up as an apprentice on the 28 March 1960 – his debut came a month later against Bristol Rovers.
Callaghan was a regular in the second division Liverpool team of the 1960s and was part of the Shankly Liverpool side that won promotion to the first division in 1962. Callaghan wouls stay a first team regular in the first division, and became a key member of the emerging Liverpool side that brought success back to Anfield during the 1960s, laying the foundations for what the club would come to be built on.
In his Liverpool career Ian Callaghan played an incredible 857 games, scoring 68 goals.
