100 Players Who Shook The Kop: #14 – Michael Owen

Michael Owen was born 14 December 1979 and played for Liverpool between 1996 to 2004.

Owen came through the Liverpool youth ranks and made an explosive debut for Liverpool when he was subbed on against Wimbledon in May 1997. His speed was astonishing to the fans, and Owen scored on his debut. This start to his Liverpool career ensured Owen was thrust into the spotlight.

Owen’s confidence grew quickly and in the 1997–98 season he was an established first team regular and ended the season as joint top goal scorer with 18 goals.

Owen went on to become an integral part of the Liverpool team, and also found success with the England team. He is one of 11 LFC players who have scored over 100 league goals for the club, a feat he achieved in 185 games. In total, Owen has made 297 appearances for Liverpool and scored 158 goals. An amazing record.
