Michael Shields BBC Documentary

On 30th MAY 2005, Liverpool FC fan Michael Shields, 18, from Wavertree in Liverpool was arrested in Bulgaria for attacking a local barman – he was convicted of attempted murder after the European Champions League final in May 2005. Despite a confession from the man responsible.

After spending over a year in jail in Bulgaria, Michael Shields was allowed to return to the UK to serve the rest of his sentence. He’s currently at Garth Prison in Lancashire.

The BBC’s Inside Out program was granted permission to visit him and hear his side of the story. Watch the documentary below. We’ve also included the ITV documentary ‘The Forgotten Fan’:
